Unfortunately it appears to be random so seems to happen in various places. However, seems to happen most when I'm opening the site and/or page on the site, attempting to full site searches, site search and replaces, and sometimes when just editing a page. Doing a dir *.htm /s on the site directory I get a return of over 16,000 pages (however, half of those I'd assume are in the _vti_... directories) and I'd assume that's not too many pages for Expression Web to handle.
